Weight is one of the most versatile patches in Kirby Air Ride due to its influence on several factors of a machine it balances Glide, enhances Top Speed, helps resist knockback when a machine is hit with an attack (complimenting Defense and HP), increases knockback given, and decreases the amount of time needed to come to a full stop. **These are not playable in City Trial outside of Free Run, so their stats cannot be changed through legitimate means. *As these machines cannot move without filling the Boost Gauge, their top speeds are 0.00 mph as Top Speed multiplies a machine's base top speed value, these machines receive no effects, positive or negative, from Power-Up Items or Power-Down Items for Top Speed Patches. Most machines have their top speed multiplied by. This decrease in top speed is a percentage of the machine's base top speed, and the percentage when decreasing below the base value also varies dependent on the machine. Receiving a Top Speed Power-Down Item decreases a machine's top speed. As a rule of thumb, machines with low base top speeds receive higher percentage changes in top speed and machines with high base top speeds receive lower percentage changes in top speed most machines have their top speed tripled when the maximum value is reached. This increase in top speed is a percentage of the machine's base top speed, and the percentage when increasing above the base value varies dependent on the machine. Top Speed increases a machine's top speed, the speed at which a machine stops accelerating/decelerating. The HP power-up cannot decrease below 0 as player HP can already be decrease by damage, although this does not decrease the machine's maximum HP. The maximum and minimum limit discrepancies between HP and the other power ups is because in the main mode of City Trial, all power-ups except HP are internally set to -2 instead of 0 as such, when a player maximizes or minimizes the value of a given power-up, these values are internally set as 16 and -16, respectively. All Up Patches simply increase the value of all other Power-Up Items by 1. HP Patches can only increase to a maximum value of 16 and cannot decrease the value below 0 due to lacking a Power-Down Item counterpart. With the exception of HP and All Up Patches, each Power-Up Item can increase a stat to a maximum value of 18 each Power-Down Item can decrease a stat to a minimum value of -14. These decrease a machine's stats, and also cause some damage. There is also an event during City Trial that causes some fake Power-Up patches to appear. They do count toward the "Pick Up X Items" check boxes in the checklist, but they do not count against the "Collect 10 X Patches" in a single city. These are Power-Down Items, and they will downgrade Kirby's machine in their respective parameter. Cities that lead into the Kirby Melee or Destruction Derby stadium games tend to give more Offense and Defense patches, while those that have Air Glider or High Jump selected tends to give more Glide patches.Īny of these patches except the HP and All Up Patches may be colored gray instead of their usual color. As such, it is possible to influence which types of patches appear more commonly in a city by setting a specific stadium game through the Game Settings beforehand. Their general purpose is to upgrade Kirby's machine to heighten the player's chances of winning the Stadium contest that is played after the city. These are patches that, once collected, stay on Kirby's machine until the end of the match unless they are lost, which can happen by taking damage or switching machines.
